Killed in action on 20th November 2011
Helmand Province, Afghanistan
Private Thomas Lake was a dedicated soldier serving with the 1st Battalion of The Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment. Tragically, he was killed in action on the 20th of November, 2011, during operations in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. His bravery and sacrifice are deeply remembered by his comrades, family, and friends.
Beyond his military service, Pte Lake was an avid football player for Oxhey Jets FC. The club, known for its strong support of the British Armed Forces, holds a special place in its heart for Private Lake. In his memory, Oxhey Jets FC organises annual football matches that serve as a poignant tribute to him and all the fallen soldiers.
These matches are not just a display of sportsmanship but also a significant act of remembrance and community solidarity. They bring together players, fans, and members of the community to honour those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. All proceeds from these events are donated to the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal, a charity that provides essential support to veterans and their families. Through these heartfelt efforts, Private Thomas Lake's legacy continues to inspire and bring people together, ensuring that his memory and the memory of other fallen heroes live on.
Oxhey Jets have worked with their local parish council, and it has been agreed that a road will be named after Tom, and his regiment PWRR will be joined by Tri Services representatives to see Toms mum, Carol, officially open Tom Lake Way on Thursday 27th June 2024.
